Still the same old You

E-mail Print PDF

What resolution did you make this New Year? What promise did you make to your spouse, kids, friends and family? Did you promise to change at the beginning of 2009 or at the end of 2008? Did you change? If not…Does that make you a Liar?

Why do we spend so much time trying to convince people that we have changed or that we are going to change? We always ask our friends and family to give us a more time and be a little more patient…as if that time will prompt us to change indefinitely. Does that make you a hypocrite?

Alan Cohen once quoted: “That it takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power”.

What is the reality of you changing? Is it that easy to change with the New Year? If it is, then why do we choose to wait? What are we afraid of? Is it important enough? Do you know the proper steps to take? I believe that change is nothing but expectation that will never come to fruition unless you take the necessary steps to create action. Do you have the right accountability to help you facilitate the change that you desire?

Martin Luther King, Jr. said “Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” As parents we encouraged our kids as babies to take the first step and now it’s time for us to face our own fears, doubts, critics and take a step.

We might even stumble or fall along the journey, but if we trust in the LORD and in the right people that he has placed in our life, then we will have the necessary help to get up and try again.  Does that make you a champion if you just take the first step? YES! We all desire infinite change, but sometimes we get in our own way of making that change happen. We never want to hear someone say “Still the same old you” in a negative light. Let’s pray for the change that we all desire to possess!!!
